Audiologists are dedicated to helping people of all ages overcome hearing loss and enjoy a higher quality of life. Audiologists can help to assess your hearing loss and prescribe hearing aids if the need is warranted. What many people don’t realize is that in Ontario, you need a prescription to get hearing aids, and only an Audiologist or Physician can legally prescribe hearing aids. Registered Audiologists have Master’s and/or Doctorate level professional degrees and are regulated by a government college. Their services have to adhere to strict standards mandated by the college that strives to protect the public’s best interest. Simply stated, Audiologists/ Doctors of Audiology have the highest professional degree possible in the field of hearing aid services. Hearing aid dispensers, sometimes called “Hearing aid specialists” do not have this level of education, nor are they regulated in the province of Ontario. They also can not legally prescribe hearing aids in Ontario.
Audiologic services are not covered by the Ontario government healthcare program, but they are vital to the success of fitting hearing aids!
At Auburn & Mountain Hearing Centres, you can be rest assured your hearing care will always be supervised by a registered Audiologist!
